Chester County
Bridge Tours
There
are over a dozen covered and other historic bridges in central
Chester County. Some of these will be included in the Encounter Rally and
probably one other event. Phila. Region’s Encounter committee is checking
out a number of wineries in the same region. This month we’d like to share
with you the bridges; by next month we’ll have checked out the wineries.
Knox
Bridge Dam Bridge (1865) crosses Valley Creek within Valley Forge National
Historical Park (VFNHP).
The western
loop begins in Phoenixville, approximately 8 miles from VFNHP. Just south of
town off Rt. 113 you’ll find a covered bridge on Rapp’s Dam Road.
There’s a rather large area for parking & a picnic lunch, photos.

Take a left
onto Camp Council Road which ends at Hares Hill Road. Crossing
this lattice steel bridge swings you south to
Seven Stars Rd. There’s
room to park a few cars for a photo-op here.
Kennedy
(1856) covered bridge comes into view a few minutes after making a right
onto Seven Stars Road. Just past the bridge there’s a circa 1800
gentleman’s estate that’s been converted to a
private school.
A U-turn on
Seven Stars Rd takes you into picturesque Kimberton. The Kimberton Inn
(circa 1835) is surrounded by a large duck pond and miniature mill. The food
and drink are superb.
