The Brandywine region will be hosting Encounter 2001 in Lancaster, PA from August 15 – 18. That’s right, Lancaster. We have some railroad nuts in the region, and they decided to work a deal to get us to one of the most popular tourist destinations with railroads a prominent feature. The Eden Park Resort hotel is centrally located in the Pennsylvania Dutch country. This is high season for this area, which has a little something for everybody. For the families, there are outlet malls everywhere, family style restaurants, Amish crafts and displays, and Dutch Wonderland amusement park. For the car nut, there is the Gast museum, which last time I was there had a Nash Healey, the first and last MG ever imported to the US, and a Tucker, which if you saw the movie you would know that there were only 50 of them built. Then there is the farm machinery museum, the quilt museum, the Amish Farm museum, and of course the Strasburg railroad museum is close by too. You get the idea.
Then there’s Encounter itself! We will start off with dinner Wednesday night – on a train! One price gets you transportation to and from the hotel, your train fare, and dinner on the train including some special Encounter 2001 wine. Space is limited. If you want to join us on the dinner train, I suggest you register early because they only have two dining cars and once they are filled there are no more tickets to be had. Thursday is the day for the Rallye, afternoon tea with our special guests, Bic and Mary Healey, and a wine and cheese reception. Friday we will hold the Gymkhana, Kiddie Khana, and a pool party. Saturday is the day for the traditional Popular car show and Concours judging, ending with the awards banquet. Of course we will also be selling Healey items in the regalia store, providing a hospitality room with refreshments, tech sessions, and lots of good company throughout the event!
