Encounter 2016 – The Venue

The Sheraton Wilmington South hotel is the setting for the Brandywine region’s Encounter 2016, which will be held August 10-13, 2016. This is the first time that there has been an Encounter held at a hotel in Delaware. This hotel was completely renovated 3 years ago and is a fantastic venue. The entire 2nd floor that overlooks the huge lobby is being taken up by our group, with Hospitality, Regalia, Registration and tech sessions in close proximity to each other. The Brandywine group has plenty of events planned for the area. Call for reservations. Here is the information:

Sheraton Wilmington South Hotel
365 Airport Road
New Castle, Delaware, 19720
Phone: (302) 328-6200 for reservations.
Mention “Austin Healey Encounter” to get the special rate of $119 plus taxes. Deadline for the room block hold: 10 July 16

The hotel is located right on I-95, just south of Wilmington, in New Castle, Delaware. You can see it from I-95. If you don’t fancy taking the Healey on the interstate, try the back road route – from the north I like to take PA route 100 south to Delaware State Route 141, which goes right by the hotel. It is a twisty road through some rural areas. Read more about the hotel.

Wednesday activity

UntitledFor those who want an early start to Encounter, the Encounter 2016 team has arranged a special activity. You may recall that this was originally scheduled to be a crab-dinner cruise on the Christina River in Wilmington. Unfortunately the Riverboat business is up for sale
and we needed more of a sure thing. So on Wednesday night, August 10, per Brandywine region tradition, a “dinner on the train” event has been arranged on the historic Wilmington & Western Railroad. PLEASE NOTE THE “DINNER ON THE TRAIN” IS SOLD OUT. More about the Dinner Criuise.

Encounter 2016 – Thursday activities

Thursday is a busy day at Encounter. It begins with the road rallye in the morning, which finishes in historic New Castle, Delaware, a short distance from the hotel. This is done so that you can have a nice tour of the city and grab some lunch at your choice of local restaurants before heading back. For Encounter registrants of the tour there are guided tours of the Dutch House, the Amstel House, and the original 1732 court house with lunch at Jessop’s tavern.
After dinner on your own, there is a wine and cheese reception back at the hotel beginning at 6:30 pm and followed by the charity auction. read more.
