The Harrisburg Region of AHSTC is pleased and honored to welcome Janet Guthrie, the first woman in history to race in the Indianapolis 500 and Daytona 500, as our special guest at ENCOUNTER 2008.  Janet will be speaking about her life and career at a number of events during ENCOUNTER.  We are pleased to offer copies of her acclaimed autobiography for sale in advance and will also have books available in Regalia at ENCOUNTER. This is a unique opportunity to have the author autograph you personal copy!

SOME ENCOUNTER HIGHLIGHTS!

Wednesday, August 6 -   We kickoff ENCOUNTER with a special opening night event.  Our special guest, Janet Guthrie, will help us get ENCOUNTER started with an exclusive evening at the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing.  We will travel by bus to the Museum grounds in York Springs where a catered pit BBQ dinner will await. Following dinner, we will have exclusive access to the Museum which houses a unique, historic collection of automobiles and memorabilia, in addition to one of the finest libraries devoted to auto racing in the country.  Janet will giving us an overview of her autobiography and we’ll have an open question and answer session before we board the bus back to the hotel.  Get a good night’s sleep because………..

Thursday, August 7 is Rally day!  The traditional time and distance rally will take place on Thursday. The scenic countryside of central PA provides the setting for this popular competition.  Next up on Thursday is an informal tour of the Rolls Royce Owners Club headquarters in Carlisle at 2:00.  Our traditional Wine & Cheese Reception rounds out the day.  Janet will speak about her early career.

Friday, August 8-  The Gymkhana takes place on Friday morning at the hotel.  Our Tech Session in the afternoon will again feature Janet Guthrie, this time discussing her early experience racing Sprites.  We hope to have a Sebring Sprite similar to the type she raced.  Friday evening we’ll have a cookout in the Courtyard at the hotel featuring the Valve Cover Racing Competition.

Saturday, August 9- The Popular Car Show and voting will be the main feature of the day on Saturday.  ENCOUNTER wraps up in the evening with our Awards Banquet.  Our guest of honor, Janet Guthrie will be the speaker and will tell us about her Indy and NASCAR racing experiences.
